Apurimac - Peru

Condor Men

Editorial | Wildlife | Culture i CONDOR MEN // Communities from the Andes, Apurimac region of Peru, are celebrating each year the traditional ceremony Yawafiesta. During this event, a symbolic fight takes place between the condor, biggest bird in the world, representing the native population; and the bull, representing the Spanish invaders. For this important ceremony to happen, villagers need to catch a condor. But only a handful of people know how to do this hard task: the Condor Men.
